From day to day mercury bars indicate ever lower temperatures. The last specimens of the white stork have picked up the flight for its annual migration. Among our pupils more than a half were able to restore the migratory ability. In early September, they ascended into the air, and after passing, as the farewell, a number of circles over our institution, started in long-haul journey, heading south. Unfortunately, this season has failed to take off the remaining half, more than sixty white storks. Among them, about fifteen are regular visitors, who, because of significant damage are forced to remain with us for whole life. The rest are the patients, which could not be cured before recent bird migration to Africa. They will be able next year to soar up to the air. Possibly about twenty birds more will stay in our clinic this autumn. Shooting, fractures, electric shock, poisoning, a few of the reasons why the storks come to our center. Their treatment and maintenance is extremely costly. As every year, we open the campaign entitled: "Wintering White Storks". With it you can help our patients survive frosts in the future. All funds received through this collection pass to meet the needs of our wintering birds. With these funds we will be able to purchase the necessary amount of food and straw, which also welcome the opportunity to accept a donation in kind. In one month of winter, we have to provide almost a ton of food, which is necessary to function properly. With unfavorable climate an abundance of nutrient food is the main factor for a positive acclimatization of storks in the icy environment and we can not afford to allow the animal felt its lack. Straw is necessary that during the greatest cold weather and heavy snowfall cover their paddock and put screens to protect against strong winds. Our main goal is to restore the patient the nature of what we are able to do largely due to these actions and your support that allows them to survive the winter in good condition. A link to the listing below. More about this collection can be read HERE.

Shooting animals for fun, that are situations with which we have been forced to contact since a long time. In recent times, unfortunately, we have noticed a fact that amount of wild animals- mostly birds-wounded by people using pneumatic weapons is growing up.One of the unfortunate victims of human cruelty proved to be a beautiful falcon (Falco cherrug), who came from region of Vienna. Falcon was delivered to us in early August by police from Przeworsk. He was extremely strong and aggressive. Detailed X-rays revealed the presence of pellets in the vicinity of the right clavicle. He stopped on the bone and lodged in the wound. The animal was really a lot of luck. If the bullet hit half a centimeter away, for the falcon have ended up tragically. We operated it for about two hours. The procedure was completed successfully. With every day after surgery he returned to form. The history of the falcon would not be special in compare with other such cases, if not for the fact that the first time we dealt with this species and that on his claws we found two rings: the first with number, second with address of the website. It turned out that the bird comes from a private Austrian culture. We established contact with the owner of a falcon, and he, of course, grateful for giving him support, expressed a desire to arrive. Fully healthy bird picked up in early September. Guardian was unable to explain why his falcon escaped and chose the route of his journey just the Carpathian Foothills. This species of falcon very sporadic appear in Poland. Aside from the Austrian bird to our center hit four more storks and Rook, at which the x-ray revealed the presence of pellets. One Bock, whose body pellets found in three rounds, despite strenuous attempts, unfortunately we could not save. The saddest thing in this whole situation is that in fact the detection of perpetrators of such crimes is very difficult, and in most cases impossible, if not caught them red-handed.

Five small roe-deers were sent recently to our center. The first deer was found near the village of Ujkowice in the middle of a large meadow covered with bushes - he had accidentally fallen into unprotected wells. For several days he whimpered and squealed, unable to get out of it. Extremely dehydrated and exhausted animal was heard by a random walker, immediately took up a small little boy. Deer had much luck, because little was lacking to make his sad story ended tragically. We were forced by a few days to feed him stomach probe. Soon we began to hit successive patients. First lost his mother in a car accident and another’s sitter died after eating poisoned food. We gave our three wards names: blue, white, red - in order to distinguish them. Each deer received a band, a color corresponding to its name. After some time we have rushed in to two more kids. First - orphaned by her mother - was spotted in the vicinity of Rzeszów. The second found near Krosno suffered as a result of contact with the working mower. June and July are the months in which we note the most of such cases. Carried out during this period the work of tall grass shear promote severe injuries derived from the tools used in mowing. Deer survived only thanks to rapid response and complicated surgery. In total we have five young patients, and they all feel good. If the rehabilitation goes our way, they will regain freedom in late autumn or early spring - depending on their condition. We will slowly try to feed them without human intervention, to the end of August and September they completely switch from milk to feed in the form of young shoots of plants, like: linden, birch Jerusalem artichoke, maple, poplar and raspberry. Currently, our beneficiaries drink about four liters of milk substitute per day. It happened that the youngest individuals had to be fed as often as every two or three hours. The costs are very large, because, as in the case of our storks, you can contribute to feed our roe-deers. More details: HERE.

To our three stork chicks who are less than a month, joined more fellows. Nine rescued orphans have a similar story - lost their nest or been abandoned. Longer period of heat and lack of rainfall caused a scarcity of food in the vicinity of their feeding grounds. When storks are not able to provide food to all its wards, smaller chicks are unfortunately doomed to die of starvation. If a parent finds that young is too weak to deal with, it gets rid of the nest. It happend sometimes that during a tug on the supplied food, oldest sibling throws others outside. A total of five abandoned chicks were noticed and rescued by bystanders in several Carpathian villages. Transport was organized and birds safely reached our resort. Serious threat to the highly exposed nests are also violent storms. The accompanying strong winds are capable of much damage, and even knock down a long and carefully constructed homes. This is what happened to the storks nest in Kolbuszowa, village which is situated close to Rzeszów. Because of the unexpected storm another four chicks has lost their nests. They were brought to us by local firefighters. We receive signals of similar cases, so we are preparing for possible adoption. Hugged chicks represent the company for three offsprings of crippled stork pair, which is residing in our centre. In total, there are already twelve. All are fully healthy and feel good. Our priority is now to adapt them to departure so that they grow up to be fully independent and healthy individuals. To feed them is a real problem for us. Daily storks must eat the equivalent of twenty percent of their body weight. Our fish stocks are now almost at the finish, and we're forced to order additional supplies which entails considerable costs. It is possible to help our chicks by taking a part in the specially opened seasonal auction. More details about our collection HERE.
